:: N. Demos Foundation
The interest of this charitable foundation for the support of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies dates back to 1989.
The Chicago-based N. Demos Foundation was founded by a bequest of Nicholas Demos aiming at the promotion of educational and charitable programs in Greece. Following the recommendation of the distinguished Hellenist Professor George L. Huxley, the N. Demos Foundation has funded a number of programs of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies since 1989.
In particular, owing to the donations of the period 1989-1991 the enrichment, maintenance and cataloguing of the Centre’s collection of Greek publications and newspapers published in Turkey was achieved, personnel training programs were carried out, the Exodus volumes on Pontus were published and the program for the maintenance of old and damaged publications was completed. Furthermore, the donation of the N. Demos Foundation during the years 1992-2005 covered part of the needs of the electronic archiving program of the Centre’s Oral Tradition Archive material.
Due to the generosity of the foundation the Centre managed to purchase rare Asia Minor publications which enriched the collection of Greek editions published at Smyrna and formed the core for the establishment of a similar collection of Greek publications of Istanbul. In addition the foundation’s contribution to the detailed registration and index of the Centre’s archival material such as the Oral Tradition Archive of the western coastline of Asia Minor proved equally important. It should also be pointed out that the collections of the Library of the Centre of the Asia Minor Studies are constantly enriched as a result of the funds provided by N. Demos Foundation (
