The CAMS digital collection is composed of digitized items from five arhives/collections: the Oral Tradition Archive, the Manuscripts Archive, the Photographic Archive, the Archive of Maps and Cartographic Sketches and the Collection of Audiovisual Material.
The annotation specifications are conformant to the international archival description standard EAD (Encoded Archival Description), taking into account the needs of the CAMS archival material as well as other international standards for the description of digital objects. The CAMS annotation scheme is compatible with the International Standard for Archival Description (General). It aims to improve archiving and conservation of the material, while, at the same time, it facilitates users when searching for particular items and presents them with valuable information for their study.
The task of annotation is ongoing as richer metadata are added to the material; the material which is accessible online is thus continuously being updated.
